Hi! My name is Jessica Mock, and I have been living and ministering in Pattaya, Thailand since August 2008. I facilitate the Pattaya House of Prayer, help lead The Crossing youth ministry, equip and disciple Thai Christians in worship, and network with and support many ministries throughout Thailand. I am on a mission to see Pattaya transform from a city known for prostitution and brokenness to a city known for beauty, purity, healing, and for praising God.
My story:
My first entry into Thailand was in 2002. I came (on what I thought was a whim) to Thailand as an exchange student at Chiang Mai University, and promptly fell in love with the Thai people. I returned to the US to graduate with a degree in social work from Westmont College, and pursued a career working with at-risk children and youth. While I always loved and invested myself fully in my work counseling children and families, and also serving in my home church and community, I knew that at one point in my life I would return to live and serve in Thailand. I returned to Thailand for a two-week short-term missions trip with some friends in 2006, and we served with ministries in Chiang Mai and also in Pattaya. During this trip I connected with some of the Thai people serving in Pattaya, and loved the offbeat nature of the city and the sincere worship of the believers in Pattaya.
In 2008, Bridges to the Nations contacted me with a request to consider serving for a short time in Pattaya, providing support to the Thai staff of True Friend Fellowship, a Thai church in Pattaya that I had visited in 2006. That same week, my home pastor at Five Cities Vineyard Church, Jose Rivera, communicated that he felt it was time for the church to send me out to minister in Thailand. God confirmed many times over, with all of my friends and family, that it was finally time for me to embark on a new adventure, one I had prayed about for years. With much trepidation and excitement, I sold and packed all of my belongings, raised support, and moved to Thailand four months later, in August of 2008.
When I left California for Thailand, the one word of direction I heard from God was “worship”. While social work was more along my line of experience and passion, I was open to whatever God brought, and told God I would say yes to anything He brought my way if it had to do with worship. The first day I stepped off the plane and met with my new ministry directors for training, I was approached and asked to lead worship for a ministry school that Extreme Prophetic ministries was starting in Pattaya. I was terrified, but knew I had to say yes. I had no band, few Thai language skills, and barely knew what side was up, but I had to say yes to worship. The week before the conference, I mentioned to some of my new Thai friends that I would be leading worship for a conference, and all of them said they would leave their jobs and join me, and God has joined us in worship ever since. With our worship band, we helped organize worship events, including Pattaya Praise, and helped usher in the presence of God through worship throughout Pattaya. I served with True Friends Fellowship, helping lead and train new Thai worshipers, continuing to network and find my place in ministry. In December of 2010, a group of Pattaya ministry leaders and pastors told me that they had been praying about starting a house of prayer in Pattaya, and that God had put my name on their heart as a potential leader for this new ministry. Tamar, a YWAM/Project L.I.F.E. ministry bringing women out of prostitution in Pattaya, had bought a building in the middle of the most bar-congested area of Pattaya, and wanted to offer the top floor of their new facility to the community to have a house of prayer. Bridges to the Nations graciously blessed me to enter into a new ministry, and in 2010 I came under the covering of Vineyard Thailand as the lead facilitator of the new Pattaya House of Prayer.
The Pattaya House of Prayer (PHOP) has become a place of refuge and refreshment for many, including myself. I am blessed to facilitate a ministry that brings the entire Christian community of Pattaya together in unity to worship, pray, and soak in and be filled with the powerful presence of God. PHOP has become a place where women and men come off of the streets and experience the love of God for the first time in their lives, and prepares them for great life transformation. I see PHOP continuing to grow as a place of discipleship in worship and the Word of God, which transforms lives and nations. I also continue to do worship-based outreach and ministry, serving alongside all of the ministries in Pattaya, and raising up new Thai worshipers to worship in Spirit and in Truth. My journey into Thailand has been a daring adventure in faith and into the heart of God through worship.
Next on the horizon of ministry is youth ministry with my Thai friends. We have been asked to transition into the leadership of current youth ministry the Crossing (the current leader will be moving to northern Thailand in 2012). We plan to take the current ministry, and grow it as God leads. The current location will be demolished in 2012, so we are looking for a new location. We are growing The Crossing into a youth fellowship, skateboard park and playground, and a discipleship and worship school all in one location. We enter into this new season of sowing into Pattaya’s fatherless youth with passion and excitment, ready to intervene in the lives of Pattaya's youth by introducing them to the Father’s love through worship, community, and discipleship. I believe that worship is and will always be the key to true freedom and transformation for Thailand, and I believe God’s work here has only just begun. May the fires of revival always burn in my heart and in this beloved nation.
Thank you for joining me on my journey!
Love, Jessica Mock
